1. What is NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN?
The National Council Licensure Examination is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States, Canada, and Australia since 1982, 2015, and 2020, respectively. There are two types: NCLEX for Registered Nurses and NCLEX for Practical Nurses.
2. Who administers the NCLEX exam?
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) administers the NCLEX.
3. What are the eligibility requirements for taking NCLEX?
Each nursing regulatory body (NRB) has its own eligibility requirements to take the NCLEX. Basically, international foreign nurse graduates must be a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree-holder.
4. Do I have to be a US citizen or a green card holder in order to qualify to take the NCLEX?
It depends on the state you wish to apply for. States such as New York, Texas, Illinois, Montana, and Saipan do not require a Social Security Number (SSN). Other states require a SSN which can only be acquired if you are a United States (U.S.) citizen or have a lawful employment-authorized immigration status.
5. Do I need work experience from my country to be eligible for the NCLEX?
Again, it varies depending on which state you are applying for. There are certain states that require you to have current hospital/clinical experience to be eligible to take the NCLEX.
